Day 0 - June 17, 2006
At 10am, with an hour of sleep under my belt from a night of last minute packing, I left San Francisco for Fairbanks, Alaska. With stops in Vancouver and Anchorage, it was a long day and I didn't get in to the hotel until 9pm. Traveling so far north so quickly one thing quickly grabs your attention and that is how late the sun stays out. At this time of year there is always some degree of light, but daylight as you and I know it lasts on the order of 20 hours or so...

Day 1 - June 18, 2006
The day started off quite mellow. Art, John, Karel, Sean and I enjoyed a mediocre (at best) breakfast in the hotel. The plan of action for the day was to do my own thing while Art and his team interviewed a member of the Gwich'in indian tribe and lined up a visit into Arctic Village. The game plan was to meet up for lunch afterwards. I spent my morning walking through downtown Fairbanks and the outlying area. Day 2 - June 19, 2006
5:30am - Art, John, Karel, Sean and I load our gear into a rental car and drive to Fairbanks International Airport to catch a small plane to Arctic Village.
6am - We arrive at the airfield and meet up with Bob, Chris, Laurie and Nicole Wittington-Evans, who will also be joining us on our trip. Later I would learn that... >> more
