Legislation In Play To Permanently Bar Drilling In The Arctic Refuge
Finally some good news is coming out of Washington D.C. in regard to the Arctic Refuge in Alaska. A bipartisan bill is being introduced in the House to permanently designate the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge as a permanently protected wilderness area. For those of you that might not be aware of this designating land as “wilderness area” provides the absolute strongest protection possible, even more so than national park status. I am hopeful that this legislation gains momentum and is ultimately passed. Protecting areas such as this are vital to our national interest and politicians need to focus on true solutions to the nations energy needs. Trashing an area as unique as Africa’s Serengeti (in fact the Arctic Refuge is indeed referred to as America’s Serengeti) for 6 months of oil consumption by our nation is no solution to foreign dependency on oil. Politicians have played to the tune of the oil industry and the automotive industry for too long (see Who Killed The Electric Car and the Arctic Refuge).
