A breaking storm at sunset in Yosemite National Park this past week provided a wide variety of conditions to photograph. After patiently watching and photographing the unfolding light show Mother Nature threw one more surprise at the few remaining die-hard photographers enduring the cold. Just as the day looked to be over one last channel opened in the clouds. The result was a perfect spotlight of red sun light painting Bridal Veil Fall and Three Sisters.

Beautiful image Jim. I really like the opposing warm vs. cool tones here.

  2. JMG-Galleries - Last Light on Half Dome, Yosemite

[...] This photo was taken from the Tunnel View lookout, but unlike many of the traditional wide angle views of Yosemite valley I opted for a super-telephoto lens at a focal length of 1200mm (600mm+2x TC). I was very lucky on this evening, not only was their rich red light on Half Dome as the last light of the day filtered through the atmosphere, but low lying clouds were wafting through as well. The clouds seem to create a veil around this often photographed landmark. Note: A more traditional view of the valley can be seen in my “Yosemite Sunset Breaking Light” photo.Technorati Tags: Yosemite, Half Dome, sunset, photo, National Park, Yosemite valley [...]
