Landscape, Nature And Travel Photography

The Discovery Channel’s “Planet Earth”

Last night I watched the first two episodes of “Planet Earth” mini-series on the Discovery Channel and was quite impressed with the quality of the programs subject material, writing and cinematography. I’ve seen plenty of nature programs and this is definitely living up to the hype. What’s equally impressive is the supporting material and stories at the end of each program and on the Discovery Channel’s web site:
Planet Earth and Planet Earth Guide

Having been present on location during the filming of a nature show I found some of the techniques used to be well executed and of high quality. Of added bonus, and something I’ve seen through podcasts and shorts on TV, is the footage captured via new technologies. I continue to look forward to the next episodes to see what other tricks they pull out of their sleeve. It should be noted new technologies or not some of the most impressive footage is almost always captured by the dedicated cameramen/women who endure extreme conditions or patiently wait long periods to get their one shot.

The quality of the program is so high this might actually get me to finally subscribe to HD channels via my cable company.
