Library of Congress Soliciting Participation in Electronic Copyright Office (eCO) Beta Test

For those of you that are unaware today is the first day that the Library of Congress is accepting applications to Beta test a new electronic submission system. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I’ll be selected to take part. It will definitely make my life easier and will speed the process by which I register my photographic work. It should also be noted that one of the benefits of electronic submission will be a lower application fee and who wouldn’t like that?

Here’s the information and best of luck…

  • I thought there was some grey area on what constitutes an image is 'published.' Check out this link (not sure if I will get my html right here);
  • You are correct Rebecca and I did know that. My brain was not stringing words together very well (geez.. three edits later on that one sentence... I guess my brain STILL isn't working).

    Thanks for clarifying the published designation.
  • You aren't copyrighting your work - you are REGISTERING your copyright. The second you click the shutter your copyright is established. The act of registering your copyright gives you the extra legal punch if your copyright is infringed. Any time you put an image out there it is published, Photoblog, Flickr, personal Website, Magazine, newspaper...
    Is your work electronic (digital jpegs, gifs etc...) or hard copy (slides, film, prints) or both?

    Best of luck to you!
  • Thanks for this information. One of my projects this summer is to get my photos copyrighted through the Library of Congress. This would be a great way to do it.

    I'm wondering though if you could help me with two questions. What is the definition for published? If I post them on a photoblog does that make them published? Second question was about deposits. I wasn't sure what to put there.

    Thanks for any help you can give.
