Photography Blog Project #2: “In Your Own Backyard”
Posted in Photography, Updates & Announcements by JimAs a follow up to my recent “backyard” experience and my first photography blog project I thought it might be fun to give everyone reading an opportunity to share an “artistic” view of something they see every day in their own neck of the woods. This doesn’t have to be literally in your own backyard, but should reflect the local flavor of where you live (with in ~5 miles). There are no rules regarding when the photo was taken, but clearly the more recent the photo the better. Oh and one last thing… don’t get hung up on showing your best photo. Participation is more important than anything else. If you want to know how to make your photo even better feel free to specify whether you’re open to critique or not. If there is enough participation I’ll see if I can pull together a prize for the crowd favorite.
Instructions:
If you have a photography-related site, take a minute to…
- - Access my Contact page
Note: Omit “http://” on any links provided until I fix my form. - - In the subject line type “In Your Own Backyard”
- - In the message put the name of your site, web address, link to your “In Your Own Backyard” photo/blog entry and a one sentence description about your photo.
The deadline to take part will be FRIDAY NOVEMBER 16h at 11:59PM PST.
The following Monday I’ll post a link to all submitted sites and photos.
DO NOT SUBMIT YOUR PHOTO/BLOG LINK AS A COMMENT TO THIS ENTRY.
Having everyones photos and stories listed at once should make for a great Monday read.

Wow, 5 miles is pretty generous. I think I’m going to use this project as an opportunity to get some new photos rather than use one previously taken.

@Brian although my photo was taken with in 2 blocks of my home I didn’t want to presume others would have that luxury particularly if in a rural location. It also gives people room to explore where they live. I’m looking forward to seeing your entry.

[...] The PhotoBlog post this week will be a bit off from the norm. Rather than show one photo and describe how & why I took it, then proceed to talk about the post-processing, I’m just showing six photos. Why? Jim Goldstein is running a project called “In Your Own Backyard” and this is my project entry. He’s only requesting that the participants show off one photo from a location within 5 miles of their home, but I like to go overboard when I do things. The idea is to give folks “an opportunity to share an ‘artistic’ view of something they see every day in their own neck of the woods.” [...]

[...] Last week, Jim from JMG-Galleries opened a very interesting project, “In Your Own Backyard“, asking his readers to submit photos of something that is seen everyday, something that doesn’t attract the eye anymore because, well, it’s just there and is so much part of the “furniture” that usually there is no second glance at it. [...]
