Landscape, Nature And Travel Photography

Photography By Jim M. Goldstein

Sunrise at Factory Butte – Caineville, Utah

Late last month when out in Utah meeting up with fellow photographer Guy Tal we photographed sunrise at Factory Butte near Caineville, Utah. The sunrise was incredibly beautiful and accentuated by a nearly full moon setting in the distance. The landscape being so vast I felt compelled to photograph the scene in a panoramic format. The resulting panoramic was made from 13 vertical photographs netting an equivalent resolution of 220+ megapixels. Clicking on the image below will load a considerably smaller version.

While I was busy snapping away Guy snuck in a photo of me in action (see below).

  • I FINALLY got around to listening to this podcast. It was one I was looking forward to and really wanted to spend some time listening. Great conversation between you two. I have been a fan of Guy's work for as long as I think I he has been online. I have also always enjoyed his writing, and the podcast provided further insight into his creative approaches.

@Richard Thanks. In retrospect I pushed myself a bit far on this trip but I think in the end it was worth it. I feel incredibly behind on processing photos from the trip, but I'll get through it soon enough. I'm still aiming to give my eyes a chance to recover.
  • wow. I like both shots. You covered a lot of ground on this trip Jim.

@Teri Thanks. Guy gets all the credit for the photographer in action photo. I was so focused on what I was doing I never knew he was up to no good :)

@Guy Glad you got a chance to view the panoramic. Although I'm fond of this panoramic its tough to truly capture the scale of the butte. In that regard your photo with me taking this photo works quite well. Once you see the butte in comparison to something you see in every day life you begin to see how large of a formation it is. This was a beautiful morning. Thanks for introducing me to it.

Great image, Jim! That file must look incredible and should make for an amazing print. It sure was a great morning.
