The Wave - Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness
Posted in Arizona, Landscape, Locations, Panoramic, Photography by JimThis is one of the few large panoramic photos I took while out at The Wave in Arizona. As some might recall I covered elements of my time at this location in my aptly titled EXIF and Beyond podcast Landscape Photography: The Wave. This particular photo is a 22 image vertical image stitch with a net resolution equivalent to 300+ megapixels.
Those that were with me when I took this panoramic thought I was a little nuts. I’m finding that is a more common reaction than not when out in the field. For better or worse I can’t stop myself from pursuing ultra-high resolution photographs of the locations I travel to.

I’m Larry55 on FM. This is a spectacular image, Jim. I can see it appealing to a lot of the purchasing masses out there. It has it all, color, compo, and balance. Congratulations on an exemplary image! Larry

Obviously great shot by anyone’s standards. When was this taken? I am heading to the wave end of next month and would like any additional info you can provide. What time of day was this taken and what time did you start out in the morning? Was there trail markers of any kind to find your way back?
Thanks

@Ronn This was late morning in October. Morning light highlights the features here the best. There are no markers on the trail at least when I was there. This makes getting to and from in low light a challenge. You may want to consider using a GPS to be safe. Have fun on your trip. You should have a blast!

You are nuts Jim. In this case it really paid off though.

I was there and I can officially say that “Yes, You are nuts” but that’s what makes you take special images like this one. Awesome job! To anyone heading out there - don’t let Jim lead the way… he’ll take you the LONG route.

@Richard Thanks
@Rebecca Thanks, but you have to admit the slight detour we took was well worth it. Such a beautiful area. I’m glad you twisted my arm to go.
