The one lens I have been I have been wanting to test out is the 17-55mm f2.8 lens. I would love to see how the quality and sharpness are compared to my third party lenses.

Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 VR. Great idea! I’ve never rented a lens before. Makes perfect sense! They have great prices – I will keep them in mind for my next trip.

[Reply]

41. Lisa Cuchara - March 26, 2009

A Canon 70-200 F2.8, I have an f4 and everything I read says that the 2.8 is far superior! It was a lot more $ and heavier so I went with the f4 but we also photograph weddings and I think that the extra light would be good.

I would also love to try out a fisheye or wide angle like the 15mm. I’d love to see a comparison of the 14 versus 15mm. I willc ertainly keep them in mind for our nxt trip because my husband and I both shoot and I have a 500mm so we’d love to have another 500 or even a 400mm to rent the next trip.

Hey Jim, this is awesome. I can say this is a great service and in fact I have my eyes fixed on 80% of the lenses and a ton of other things as well, but for not if I were to narrow the gap at all i would have to choose the Nikon 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6D ED VR or the Nikon 600mm f/4G ED AF-S VR in any case I would be happy to try most anything. I think this summer I will be renting and borrowing quite a few things, just to see how they fit my system and my style of shooting.

Grindstone Island sits in the St. Lawrence river about 15-20 miles north-east of the mouth of Lake Ontario. I spent my childhood vacations at a little cottage there.

Sadly, its been a few years since I’ve made it to the river. Busy at work, fuel prices, etc all conspired against me to keep me away.

This year, however, I’m intent on making it to the 1000 Islands come hell or high water!

I’m contemplating heading to the river with a Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS from BorrowLenses. Lake-liners, bald eagles, wind-battered trees, castles, beautiful granite (and much more) would provide an endless array of things for me to point that big ol’ lens at!

In addition, my family will be getting together for a reunion so having this lens would be great for doing some portraits. (though my family is so huge, I’ll probably be using my Sigma 10-20 for the group shots!)

Jim, thanks for the chance to win the week’s rental!
