Swiftcurrent Lake Panoramic, Glacier National Park

Glacier National Park never ceases to amaze even the most seasoned landscape photographers. The light show put on my Mother Nature on this particular morning was nothing short of breathtaking. The beauty of the rugged landscape here is so immense I felt compelled to take a series of panoramic photos. This particular panoramic was made from (3) three Canon 1Ds Mark III photos using a 24mm TS lens. While taking this photo I thought for sure that the fog was burning off, but it was actually reforming. This scene eventually was obscured by fog with in minutes.

  • Beautiful image Jim. This particular shot doesn't strike me as one needing a T/S. Or were you only using it for the shift purposes in creating the pano? I have been contemplating a T/S lens myself, but still undecided on the focal length that would give me the most use.

    Mark you're correct this was used for the shifting of the lens. If you're unsure about what tilt-shift lens to get then you should definitely try renting them to find out which one works best for you.
  • Glacier Natl Park is very high on my to-do list, this just puts it even higher on that list :)

    Great panoramic. Glacier National Park is so amazingly beautiful.... I'm not sure any photo can do it justice considering the scale of those glacial lakes & valleys. Thanks for the link. It does indeed seem we just missed each other. By the look of your photostream we visited more than one common location.

    Thanks. You are absolutely right, Glacier Park makes it real difficult to take a bad photo! For me it is the cream of the crop for wilderness mountainous areas that are just spectacular here in the US.

    Yeah, we made a world wind tour of the west...more driving than hiking! Next trip will be more backpacking hopefully around the Great Sand Dunes National Park area.

    Great capture Jim. Like I said, this is another reason why I can't wait to go to Glacier.

    You complain of fog. To me that makes a place worth seeing. The drama in the scene makes a bigger impact as a photo but also as a scene. The inconsistancy of nature is a wonderful thing. It changes to keep the human mind interested, otherwise we would get bored fast and photos would be the only thing to satisfy us. We wouldn't want to go out and experience such a wonderful place like Glacier. We wouldn't appreciate what nature has in store.
  • Christopher as someone who lives in San Francisco you're preaching to the choir about the fog and other weather phenomenon. Only difference is the fog obscured everything shortly after this photo was taken. I'll post a photo to show in the near future. Thanks for the comment!
