Landscape Photographers and Fog, Glacier National Park

As you might recall in a previous post Swiftcurrent Lake Panoramic, Glacier National Park I was mentioning how fog quickly moved in obscuring the view. Here’s what the view looked like after I relocated to a different location. A few photographers who thought they got up early enough, set up for early morning light only to be shut out by quick forming fog. Sometimes it pays to be an over achiever and wake up to

Assumptions of “Free”

Continuing my thoughts from my previous post  Review: “Free: the Future of a Radical Price” … Free: The Future of a Radical Price tackles a variety of challenging concepts that have perplexed very smart economists and entrepreneurs for sometime. The arguments made to justify Free and hail it as the future model, in a very broad sense, of online economics could easily be labeled ambitious or optimistic. While I

Breakfast in Costa Rica with White-headed Capuchin Monkeys

Ever have the feeling that someone is watching you? While traveling in Costa Rica earlier this year I made my way to Santa Elena to visit the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. Here my wife and I woke up for a classic Costa Rican breakfast only to find a troupe of White-headed Capuchin monkeys gawking at us as we ate. Apparently they knew when breakfast was served and would show up for the start of it in the hopes of g

Review: “Free: the Future of a Radical Price”

Chris Anderson kick-started the discussion of Free as a business strategy in early 2008 with his Wired article Free! Why $0.00 Is the Future of Business. His previous book the “Long Tail” received rave reviews and has become a must read for many in marketing and business development. The Long Tail explores the combination of market forces and newly available digital technologies creating revenue opportuni

I Survived Leading a Scott Kelby Photo Walk!

This past Saturday Scott Kelby’s World Wide Photo Walk was held. I led a photo walk here in San Francisco’s North Beach neighborhood in the late afternoon through sunset and everyone seemed to have a blast.  It was fun to re-explore the city and see the sights through fresh eyes. For all that joined my photo walk thanks for taking part. I had a great time meeting you and look forward to seeing your photos

Your Photos Now Featured in Facebook Ads

This past Friday it surfaced that Facebook started including user profile photos in ads run with in the Facebook network. It’s widely known that if a product or service is vouched for by a close friend the liklihood that you’ll investigate and buy the product or use the service increases. The marketing and advertising folks at Facebook know their stuff and they’re taking full advantage of their term

Free: Resistance if Futile or Is It?

In 2008 after reading Chris Anderson’s article Free! Why $0.00 Is the Future of Business I had two reactions: Resistance, a quick knee jerk reaction to say bah humbug. Curiosity, to dissect the notion of what impact free has not just on businesses but creative content. I read the Free article a couple weeks after it came out on a flight back from Utah and later kept that edition of Wired on my desk for sometime

Think Tank Shape Shifter Review Part I

This week I’m trying out a new camera bag, the Think Tank Shape Shifter. I’ve posted a video of part 1 of my review (see below). I wanted to see how much this shape shifting back could really hold and what better way to test that than by moving gear from my very full Lowepro Vertex 200 AW camera backpack  to it. So far so good. I’ll give the bag a run for its money, adjusting what I keep in it, for
