It’s been a great year for photography and as the year closes out I thought it would be fun to select my favorite photos from the year. I had a tough time narrowing things down so here they are…

Honorable Mentions:

Los Angeles Sunrise cityscape photo by Jim M. Goldstein Honorable Mention #6:
Los Angeles Sunrise

This was one of the most dynamic cityscape I took this year, but as much as I liked it compared to some other photos taken this year it didn’t make the top 10.

Last Light on Half Dome, Yosemite landscape photo by Jim M. Goldstein Honorable Mention #5:
Last Light On Half Dome, Yosemite

This was one of the few super-telephoto landscape photos I took this year. The dramatic atmosphere and lighting made this a standout for me.

Out of the Gloom photo by Jim M. Goldstein

Honorable Mention #4:
Out of the Gloom II

Strangely this photo caught my eye the second time looking through the results of my photo shoot. In retrospect for the year its nearly one of my top 10 favorites.

San Francisco Oil Spill photo by Jim M. Goldstein Honorable Mention #3:
San Francisco Oil Spill

This was the last thing I wanted to photograph this year, but this photo struck a nerve with a lot of people not just myself. It’s been picked up by the Sierra Club and couple of other local publication. Lets hope 2008 is a better year for the environment.

San Francisco cityscape photo by Jim M. Goldstein Honorable Mention #2
San Francisco

With the right combination of weather and lighting I was able to capture this view of San Francisco just after sunset. I still can’t believe this didn’t make the top 10, but it’s still one of my favorites from the year.

Refinery I environmental photo by Jim M. Goldstein, smokestack, refinery, pollution Honorable Mention #1
Refinery I

As soon as I started to drive past this refinery I knew the exact shot I wanted to capture. I didn’t quite get it the first time out, but the second time passing through the area I got it thanks to the perfect weather and lighting conditions.

Thanks for checking in on my Top 10 Favorites for 2007. The photos are only half the equation of what has made this a great year for photography. The other and most important half has been everyone’s support whether you read my blog, like you do, or have to put up with me on a daily basis like my friends and wife have… this year wouldn’t have been nearly as great with out you. Thanks and have a great 2008!

More Blue Angels photos from San Francisco’s 2007 Fleet Week performance. Today I couldn’t resist trying my luck one more time photographing the Blue Angels during the last day of their San Francisco performance. With the benefit of getting the best positioning possible, the press area, I was able to get some other wise unattainable photos of the Blue Angels. Enjoy…

More Blue Angels photos from San Francisco’s 2007 Fleet Week performance. As mentioned previously it’s a great challenge to photograph the Blue Angels well while performing here in San Francisco. Aside from the variable of timing, weather is always a factor as is air quality. This weekend has been perfect for photographing the Blue Angels.

The Blue Angels are once again in San Francisco and performing at Fleet Week 2007. I always enjoy photographing the Blue Angels as its a real challenge. If you’re in the San Francisco bay area the Blue Angels will be performing at 3pm on Saturday and Sunday.

One of the many fun local photographic opportunities is to shoot the Blue Angels when they come to San Francisco for Fleet Week. Today’s breaking news is that the #6 plane crashed while performing at an air show in Beaufort, S.C.

I haven’t seen a report who the pilot was that died in the incident, but my heart goes out to his/her family (see update below) Blue Angels Official Web Site

Update:
Blue Angels Crash Kills Pilot - SF Chronicle
The No. 6 jet was piloted by Lt. Cmdr. Kevin Davis, 32, of Pittsfield, Mass.” In this article it is noted that during the 2006 performance in San Francisco Lt. Cmdr. Kevin Davis was the team’s narrator and provided flights to lucky members of the media.
My best goes to the family of Lt. Cmdr. Kevin Davis.

On the topic of the Blue Angels and Fleet Week 2006… I got rather nastalgic about last years show. I didn’t get nearly as many good photos, but these two were my favorite.

Its an exciting weekend here in San Francisco as its Fleet Week and that means the Blue Angels are performing. It used to be that the Blue Angels would return to San Francisco every year, but that has not been true the past 4 years as they now visit every other year. Like clockwork I make it out to get my best photo of the performance. Having photographed numerous Blue Angel performances here in San Francisco it never gets any easier. You never know what you’ll get. Below is my personal favorite from the day. Its extremely tough to time this type of shot and even shooting 9fps you’re bound to miss it 2 out of 3 times… case in point today. Click here to see more
