Last Light on Big Sur, California

The Big Sur coast is an amazing site to behold with its turquoise water, monolithic spires of ancient rock eroded by constant pounding of surf. Truly an inspiring place for all, but especially for artists.  Watching sunsets here is akin to witnessing the unveiling of a new masterpiece every day. The more I review my Big Sur photos the more I want to return. As for this photo it was taken after my Primitive Coast III and Big Sur Crashing Surf photos just as the last light of the day illuminated  the coast. That last glimmer of light is always special, but very much so in this location with the vibrant colors in the rocks, water and sky.

Friday Freebie iPad Wallpaper – Big Sur Surf

This Weeks Friday Freebie iPad Wallpaper: Big Sur Surf
Friday Freebie features an image to liven up your iPad display with images from my travels… all for free.

Last week I received some inquiries to desktop wallpaper. For the time being I’m going to stick to iPad wallpaper, but inevitably I will expand to include desktop wallpaper. Stay tuned.

This particular photo was taken the same day I photographed Big Sur Crashing Surf. As I waited for golden hour light I couldn’t help but explore capturing the motion and color of the water. If there is one iconic characteristic of the coastal waters off Big Sur it is the amazing aqua and blue tones seen in this image. If you’re fond of similar surf photos be sure to check out my my photography collection of surf pictures.

Before you run off to start your weekend click the iPad above or here to download your free iPad wallpaper. Have a great weekend!

Big Sur Crashing Surf

The rugged coastline of Big Sur is always a dramatic scene, but especially so when large surf sweeps through the area. This week large surf returned, but I was unable to get out to the coast in time. I’m not losing sleep as more storms are certain to travel through the area this winter.

Interestingly while preparing this image I noticed two small streaks in the sky. I can’t prove it with out a doubt, but I’m certain there were more meteors falling on the evening I took this photo in 2009 other than the one I reported in my post Primitive Coast III.
