Most people haven’t received my Yosemite abstracts as well as some of my other Yosemite photos, but I still like them. Really in the world of art isn’t that all that matters? You’re right not really, but here’s another in my series anyhow. Another favorite landscape photo of mine from White Sands National Monument. Taken in the afternoon while storms were forming over the Sacramento mountains. [tags]White Sands National Monument, New Mexico, dune, gypsum, landscape, photo, photograph, thunderhead[/tags]
This is one of my favorite landscape photos. While visiting White Sands National Monument in New Mexico an out of season monsoon rolled through. It transformed the landscape. Walking in the middle of no where with the randomly shifting light something new and amazing seemed to be revealed every few seconds. When I look at this photo I can’t help but be transported back to this moment and get lost in the scene e
I’m always in awe of how nature can be so beautiful yet elusive. Harbor Seals in particular are quite shy so getting a good photo can be tricky. This Harbor Seal, setting up to take a nap in the kelp, appeared out of no where just as I was calling it a day. [tags]Harbor Seal, seal, wildlife, photography, photo, Monterey, California[/tags]
Taken back in the day when I was shooting slide film. This was one of the more memorable sunsets I’ve photographed. The rolling hills and golden hue of the Marin Headlands always provide a dramatic view. [tags]Marin, headlands, sunset, photo, California, Golden State, hills[/tags]
This is one of my favorites from this past summer. Taken at an elevation of about 1750 feet looking east through Caribou Pass towards Canada. Over the ridge to the left was a view of the Arctic Ocean and to the right was a view of the Kongakut River valley. Photographed in the foreground is Arctic Phlox along with a variety of other arctic wildflowers. [tags]Arctic Refuge, Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, ANWR, Arcti
This evening I was very fortunate in that I caught “The Greatest Good” on PBS. It reminded me of my roots and the progression of my interest into photography. With out any doubt my interest in photography is rooted in my fondness for nature and wilderness. Growing up as a small child in Alaska, the wilderness was an endless curiosity on our numerous camping trips and later throughout the rest of my life e
A personal favorite of mine from my March trip to Yosemite. Although not the most mysterious abstract it is one in my eye none-the-less. As a viewer I might be prone to look over this rushing through my day, but as a photographer what attracted me to this was the complexity of shapes, textures and shadows. Photographically the challenge was to provide a sense of order to the busy scene with careful composition. Yosem
