3 Photo Contests You Might Like

If you’re into photo contests these three might just be right up your alley.  For each I leave it to you to review terms and rules. In my initial pass I see nothing that should warrant anyones concern. Below are the contests for your consideration:

  1. 2009 California Fall Challenge “Click Off!”
by the San Francisco Bay Bird Observatory (SFBBO)
This contest is specific to the San Francisco Bay Area, and supports a great cause. You can learn a little more about the conservation programs organized by the SFBBO in this slideshow put together by fellow photographer Michael D. Kern
A Visual Introduction to the San Francisco Bay Bird Observatory

  2. LLTL Monthly Photo Contest – Summer Contest
by Darwin Wiggett’s “Life and Learning Through the Lens” blog
This is a friendly contest among readers of Darwin Wiggett’s blog. If you’re unfamiliar with Darwin Wiggett he’s an amazing photographer on two levels. First he’s a super talented and second he’s a great writer who is always sharing great knowledge. I’ve learned alot from Darwin over the years and he continues to be an inspiration. Whether you enter his friendly summer photo contest or not I highly recommend reading his blog.

  3.  Lens Culture International Exposure Awards
by Lens Culture and sponsored by Blurb & LiveBooks

I’m new to Lens Culture, but the concept of the contest and photographer friendly terms make this worthy of passing along. The listed judges are an impressive lot and the cash prizes are certainly an attention getter as well. This contest is definitely one to have on your radar.

Reader Contest: Guess My New Camera, Win A Print

Today after a short but intense round of research, all of 3 days, I bought a new camera. I’ve mentioned this on Twitter (@JimGoldstein) some and have been intentionally vague about it. My intention with being coy about the purchase was to make an announcement with an example of the output from the camera. I’m still going to do this, but I’ve noticed a flurry of guessing happening with my network on Twitter.

Let’s make it interesting. If anyone can guess what camera I purchased I’ll let you choose a 12×18 print (limited prints excluded) of your choice. I warn you though this will be no easy task to guess what I picked up today. One guess per person so guess wisely. I’ll announce the winner the day I post example output from the camera sometime the week of May 11th.

Have fun and good luck!

Epson Print Academy Ticket Giveaway Results

In early January I kicked off a ticket giveaway to (3) three Epson Print Academy events in Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles. The results are in from a very random selection process… namely a number on paper, for each comment/trackback to my original post Epson Print Academy – I’m Giving Away Tickets, thrown into a bowl. Duplicate entries were removed for those making multiple comments and selections were picked blindly.

A reminder even if you did not win… I highly recommend registering for the Epson Print Academy event. The information shared on workflow, post-production and print preparation is well worth the discounted $99 registration fee. With out further ado the winners are as follows for each location..

Seattle on January 31st, 2009

  • Jesse Fueng
  • Jay Chadney

San Francisco on February 7th, 2009

  • Andrea Pook
  • Greg A. Lato

Los Angeles on February 21st, 2009

  • Mike Cavaroc
  • James Bau

Congratulations! I will be contacting winners by email to arrange access information with Epson.

Epson Print Academy – I’m Giving Away Tickets

It’s not often I get behind a commercial venture, but if I do its because I really have found it to be of value. Such is the case with the Epson Print Academy. Back in 2006 I attended the San Francisco event and walked away with notes I reference to this day.

It’s for this reason and with great enthusiasm I’m announcing a JMG-Galleries blog exclusive:
I’m giving away a total of 6 tickets …
2 tickets to
each of the following Epson Print Academy events:

1/31/09 – Seattle, WA.

2/7/09 – San Francisco, CA

2/21/09 – Los Angeles, CA

The Epson Print Academy has two tracks and if you win you can choose either track to attend.

Track 1:
Instructor – Jack Reznicki
Learn how the pros create award winning prints with the latest generation digital SLRs, software and printers.

Track 2:
Instructors – JP Caponigro, Greg Gorman, R. Mac Holbert, Andrew Rodney and Jeff Schewe
cover how to optimize a professional workflow to increase productivity and create the ultimate print with Epson UltraChrome® HDR Ink Technology

Giveaway Deadline: Friday January 23rd – 11:59 PM PST for all 3 locations

How to Enter:

  1. Simply leave a comment on this post with a short answer to the following question for 1 entry into the drawing:
What would you like to learn about to create prints or improve your print making?

    Important:

    • Be sure to use a valid email address when filling out the fields to leave a comment. This way I can contact you if you win.
    • In your comment clearly specify what city you’d like to attend the Epson Print Academy.
The option are Seattle (1/31), San Francisco (2/7) and Los Angeles (2/21)

  2. For a 2nd entry into the drawing write a few lines on your blog about printing, answering the same question above, while incorporating a link back to this blog post.

What If I Don’t Win?

Even if you don’t win the giveaway I highly recommend attending. There is a discounted price to attend if you register at least 3 days before the seminar.  Track 1 costs $49.95 (normally $79.95) and Track 2 costs $99.95 (normally $149.95). The knowledge you’ll walk away with is well worth the cost to attend.
