Sometimes the parallels between the city and nature sneak up on you. Only after seeing my film did the movement and energy of the city prompt me to think of a stream running through the trees. The telephoto effect, created aptly when using longer focal length lenses, creates an altered perspective where distances are compressed or shortened. The net effect makes objects, that may be quite some distance apart, look close together. The longer the focal length the more pronounced this effect. Ever wonder how to photograph wind? It’s a tough concept to effectively capture. While on my honeymoon in Kauai, Hawaii I saw an opportunity one late evening. The right combination of subjects presented themselves including partly cloudy skies, palm trees and a firm wind. I ended up opting to use the moon to backlight a palm tree blowing in the wind to give the scene a little more of a dramatic flare. [tags]Haw

A very rare sighting during trip through the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, a prematurely born Caribou calf migrating with a small herd to the coastal plain. Normally calfs are born on the coastal plain. This small herd was looking to cross the Kongakut river which was quite wide and fast moving at this junction. They eventually opted not to cross.
