This Sunday I woke up very early (4:40 AM) to drop my wife off at the San Francisco Half Marathon in which she was running. Being up before sunrise I thought it would be worth a try to go out looking for wildlife photo opportunities. Fortunately wildlife abounds here in the San Francisco bay area and it only takes a short drive to get to an area you might cross paths with wild animals. After dropping my wife off I de
No matter what type of photography interests you, whether its landscape photography, nature photography, street photography, people photography or any other type of photography its essential to always be prepared. Over the years I’ve learned that being prepared is itself an art form. The art of preparedness is seldom just a generic chore and can require quite a bit of creative thought.
The telephoto effect, created aptly when using longer focal length lenses, creates an altered perspective where distances are compressed or shortened. The net effect makes objects, that may be quite some distance apart, look close together. The longer the focal length the more pronounced this effect. A very neat development to report this week. I’ve had some of my Golden Gate Bridge photos spotlighted in the San Francisco Chronicle, the largest newspaper here in the San Francisco bay area. They have a “Flickr Pickr” page as part of their “96 Hours” section where they highlight local photographers on Flickr. The write up is quite flattering… Thanks John! See the full write up on
I took this photo of the San Francisco skyline through the Golden Gate Bridge about two weeks ago on a semi-warm afternoon that turned to chilly evening. I was pretty please with how it came out. I think it might be one of the better San Francisco photos I’ve taken in sometime. I suppose that makes it a personal favorite of mine. After posting this on Flickr it would seem I’m not alone in liking this shot
It’s early but this is one of my favorite images taken this year. For me the lighting is what makes this shot. Seeing the Golden Gate Bridge lit with the Transamerica Building in the background gives a three dimensional feel to an otherwise compressed scene. I thought this was pretty neat, but the next image in this sequence (to be posted soon) surpasses this in my opinion.
